Shooting for success at Bisley

This is a forthcoming news article about our success at the Bisley National Shooting Championship held on the 18th – 20th October, 2019.

Over the weekend of the 18th to 20th October 3 Scouts and Scout Leader, Sarah Templeton of 1st Handforth Scout Group entered the 44th National Scout Shooting Championships in Bisley, Surrey. In a very fiercely competitive competition of more than 700 entrants the team competed over two days in a number of events including; air rifle, air pistol, small bore target shooting. The team from Handforth competed in their first ever national event with numerous Scout teams from across the UK, including members of the Scouts UK Shooting Squad. Earlier this year 1st Handforth Scouts became members of the Alderley Shooting Squad and together with encouragement and invitation from South West Cheshire Shooting Squad, 1st Handforth were able to compete in this prestigious national scouting event. The 1st Handforth Scout team managed some impressive results:

The team of 3 Scouts; Csaba Barns, Jamie Shenton and Frazer Atkins managed to a well-deserved 4th place in the coveted HRH Duke of Connaught Junior Trophy. It was a really close competition with the 1st Handforth team just missing out on a Bronze medal by 2.5 points.

Csaba Barnes shot to 1st place winning the Jeff Lacey Trophy and a Gold Medal in the Under 14s Pistol category. He also managed a creditable 16th place in the 6yd Own Rifle event.

Jamie Shenton managed a brilliant 2 Bronze Medals for his 3rd place in both Junior Own Rifle and Junior Small Bore categories also a 4th place in Junior Target Sprint B and a valiant 8th place in Junior Pistol.

Frazer Atkins shot his way to an amazing 31st place in the 6yd Junior Own Rifle category only after 3 weeks of training.

Sarah Templeton 1st Handforth’s Scouts, Troup Leader managed an impressive 2nd place in the Class B Full Bore event and an excellent 15th position in the 3P Individual Sporter competition.

In the Chief’s Prize competition Csaba and Jamie were separated by 1.5 points taking 9th and 10th places respectively. The Chief’s Prize is awarded to individuals who attain the best aggregate performance score over four categories by Scouts under 14. The prize is presented to the winners by Bear Grylls, who is the Chief Scout.

The above 4 team members aggregate scores were used in both the Pistol Trophy and the Webley Scott Trophy which resulted in magnificent results of 7th and 9th place respectively.

Massive credit to Sarah Templeton who has been masterminding the training sessions over many weekends and congratulations on her well earnt results.
